Brothers in Arms

2019 has been an exciting year so far for the Geig family. Our sons, Nic and David have both recently graduated from Military Basic Training. Nic graduated on February 8, 2019 from Naval Station Great lakes during one of the most extreme winters ever. On some days it was colder there than in Antartica. David just recently graduated from FT. Leonard Wood as an MP on June 27, 2019. Unfortunatly, he had to stay directly after for AIT.

Nic deployed on June 5, 2019. he flew commercial to several countries until his final destination in Djibouti, Africa where he was to be picked up via helicopter. We received a call about 4am three days after he left stating that he had been in a shack with no air, no windows and a dirt runway and the only American for 5 hours and no helicopter. Because mom is a relentless woman she had us calling countries, naval stations and senior leaders to get someone to get her boy. She's got her passport and at any moment is ready to let someone know they aren't doing their job right, if needed. After a few hours we were able to wake someone up to arrange his pick-up. Meanwhile, an employee of the airport in Djibouti noticed he stuck out like a sore thumb and contacted the closest base. Verizon bill for June an extra $200. He is now attached to the USS Louis B. Puller.

David has been enjoying ten days off before heading to Germany. His Mom (Jennifer) threw him a wonderful 4th of July party with friends and family to celebrate his latest achievement. It was a shock when David informed us that he wanted to become a Military Police Officer and had already spoken to a Recruiter. He's always been so fascinated with cars and we thought for sure that is the route he would of taken.

We are incredibly privileged to be the parents of these two fine young men. Nic and David have always been complete opposites and didn't always play well together, but now, not only brothers but Brother's in Arms. Between David's many trips to the Principal's office and Nic's (every other) weekend trips to the ER, we were not sure that either would survive adolescents. None the less they muddled their way through it and we enjoyed every second!
